A Man with a heart to give.

Kevin Minor (1967-2022) was a pinnacle in the Chicago tennis community, spending his entire life advocating for children in the sport. His service was not only to the USTA, but to dozens of families who have navigated the junior tournament landscape. As many attested to at Minor's funeral, Kevin was always happy to provide advice whether it was how to get started playing or where events and tournaments were taking place. His giving heart, daughters’ success and impact on the court are the reasons The Minor Family was awarded the 2022 USTA Chicago District and USTA Midwest Family of the Year Awards.

Kevin and his wife, Michelle, met while studying at Purdue University and were married for 33 years. Their eldest daughter, Kristina, is a Senior Associate Athletic Director at Northwestern University.  Jasmine is an Emmy Award-winning television reporter in Indianapolis. Brienne won the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships in 2017, becoming the first Black woman to win the singles title.

In 2022, Kevin participated in a strategic planning process for USTA Chicago. At the conclusion of the process, he shared how—despite long days at work—he always felt energized after attending a planning meeting. He felt as though the process allowed the Chicago District to identify work efforts that would help tennis grow.

When Minor passed away on May 17, 2022, his family rallied to solidify his legacy by creating a scholarship fund in his name. Easing that financial burden for other families is something the Minor family knows Kevin would have loved.

Our hope is that this Legacy Fund continues to grow into a long-term endowment and become an annual girl's tennis tournament and benefit to raise additional funds. We're excited to see just how wide the ripple effects of our dad's life can reach!
