Rising Star Earns Top Midwest Scholarship
AURORA, IL. — Alexandra Hu, 13, has been awarded the third annual Kevin Minor Legacy Fund scholarship of $5,000. Alexandra gained the attention of the Minor Family through her love for the game, competitive nature, and strong work ethic.
The rising 8th grader, who holds a 4.0 GPA, began playing tennis at the age of six. She has become an excellent singles and doubles player with a current ranking of #1 in the USTA Northern Illinois District and #4 in the USTA Midwest Section in the 14 and under category.
She says she is currently working on perfecting her technique and footwork so she can be “faster and more efficient on court”.
Alexandra currently has two Silver Balls (2nd place) won in doubles play at Level 1 National Tournaments, but she wants more. Her goal is “to be able to win a Level 1 National tournament and get a Gold Ball. I have always wanted to win a national tournament and I am going to train harder to get there”. With her success as a Junior Tennis player, her long-term goal is “to be able to play D1 Tennis in college with a full scholarship” to further her education.
The Minor Family believes Alexandra is well on her way to reach her goals and with her hard work and dedication on the court, this scholarship will help her get the additional training she desires.
Alexandra says, “This grant would help me a lot because it would let me be able to sign up for more lessons, be able to hit more, get me better equipment, and it would help with costs of transportation and hotels for tournaments. Getting this grant would help me so much with the cost of tennis and it would let me play more and improve.”
